This is a set of five coordinated panels salvaged from vintage obi, hand-selected according to your prefereces for color and design. We have over 2000 pieces to choose from, so we're confident we can put together a custom set of fabrics to suit your needs.
These textiles were collected from bales of Japanese textiles dating from the 1920s to the 1960s. As you can see in the photos, the collection is extensive - embroidered, woven, painted, stenciled, satin fabrics and more! Solids, florals, stripes, geometrics - you name it! Great for pillows, quilting, runners, totes, garments - just about anything that calls for vintage silks as featured fabric.
NOTE: Orders placed in May will be filled and shipped in early June.
The fabric from these obi was originally intended for fashion, decor and art projects, so the condition of each piece is not likely to be pristine, but the overall quality is quite good and excellent for piecework. While the pieces are likely to have some blemishes from age or wear, each is at least 75% usable, and most are over 90%.
Each panel will be a standard obi length - 12"-14" wide and 10"-12' long, so total yardage will average 16+ yards, but again - it is not likely to be 100% usable.
The fabric weight could be light (scarf weight) or heavier weaves (more suitable for totes or pillows) as you wish.
All of the fabric will be bundled after the lining fabric has been removed.
The bundles shown are examples of other sets we have assembled and sold. Yours will be different and unique.
This offer is best suited for artisans who can use a variety of textures, colors, and designs. If you are looking for a specific motif or palette (i.e., cranes, ships, only deep purples, or a specific floral), this listing may not be what you're looking for, but we might have one or two pieces that would meet your needs. Email me to discuss.
