Vintage Japanese Kimono, Obi, Fabric

A lovely 1960's style pattern and palette of falling leaves really sets off this otherwise plain black silk jacket.

There is some horizontal lined texture to the black but the colorful collar makes the jacket. We really like the vintage play of pattern against the dark background.

OK, the original lining is perhaps less interesting - brown plaid - but it's silk and original to the michiyuki this jacket was made from..

Each Japanique Jacket starts with a vintage Japanese michiyuki jacket - a narrow garment with snap closures that was meant to be worn on top of a kimono.

We remove the center panels and add a collar with contrasting and complimenting vintage kimono or haori fabric, which opens the jacket up, allowing for a better fit for those who would like a more generous cut.

They're a great alternative to the vintage kimono jacket because we preserve the main construction - sleeves, length, and lining - but add a touch of our own creativity in choosing fabrics that work well together.
