"Abstract Birds" Tomesode Kimono
Elegant, "Mother of the Bride" style tomesode kimono - made for formal wear.
We love the wimsy of this very abstract design! Muted colors - gray, purple, pink, brown, cream - allow the elaborate design to take your attention. Find several birds hidden within the design, along with fun florals and lots of creative shapes!
Several techniques were needed to accomplish this design, including embroidery, couching, yuzen, and gold leaf. See videos below on each technique.
There are five somewhat unusual and fantastic crests - folding fans arranged to look like the butterfly!
A tomesode kimono is typically overall black silk with five family crests on the upper section (one at the neck, one on the back of each sleeve, one on each side of the collar) which confirms it is the highest level of formality for a kimono. The design stretches across the hemline with more image in the front, where it would be seen best, but continues across to the back.
