"Embroidered Phoenix" Tomesode Kimono

Elegant, "Mother of the Bride" style tomesode kimono - made for formal wear.

Many layers of design in this kimono. The background imagery features a stenciled design of crests that are angled as if to frame an art piece. Also in the background are softer images of wispy flowers.

But the featured element is a beautifully embroidered phoenix in shining silver and gold threads.

Several design techniques were used to create this kimono, including embroidery, couching, yuzen, and gold leaf. See videos below on each technique.

Five crests that combine bell flower and paulownia.

Very good vintage condition - some slight discoloration or mottling on the back which might be hidden if the kimono is worn with an obi. See photos.

A tomesode kimono is typically overall black silk with five family crests on the upper section (one at the neck, one on the back of each sleeve, one on each side of the collar) which confirms it is the highest level of formality for a kimono. The design stretches across the hemline with more image in the front, where it would be seen best, but continues across to the back.
