"Embroidered Mums" Tomesode Kimono

Elegant, "Mother of the Bride" style tomesode kimono - made for formal wear.

A sweeping collage of mums arches along the hemline. Bright and bold orange with gold and cream accent colors.

You'll see several design techniques including yuzen, gold leaf, couching, and some fantastic embroidery - especially in the single, featured mum on the front panel.

See videos below on how these technique are done.

Five unusual bamboo and pine combination crests.

Very good condition - lining is heavily blemished with mottling in the starch used in the 1950s and 60s, which discolors with age. But this does not show when the kimono is worn or displayed from the back.

A tomesode kimono is typically overall black silk with five family crests on the upper section (one at the neck, one on the back of each sleeve, one on each side of the collar) which confirms it is the highest level of formality for a kimono. The design stretches across the hemline with more image in the front, where it would be seen best, but continues across to the back.
