Description

"Fu Dog Protectors" Boy's Kimono

This is a vintage Japanese boy's kimono, probably from the 1950s or earlier. These little robes could have been sleepwear or worn under a kimono for a more formal event.

Fierce-looking fu dogs - known as protectors and guardians - appear from smoky clouds, ready to pounce. Banded background with an angled line of family crests including arrow fletching.

There is an unusually large, single crest stitched at the back of the neck, and bright turquoise ties that also have a stitched talisman on each side. These ties are common on children's kimono but they don't always survive the years in such good condition.

Blemish on the front shoulder, see photo.
