"Nishijin Weave" Nagoya Obi and Obijime Set

This is a nagoya obi where the width is folded over and sewn together for about two thirds of the length - this is the portion that is wrapped around the waist. Includes the complimenting obijime shown. Obijime are the finishing touch to the traditional obi sash, tied on top of the obi with a decorative knot at the front.

While we can't guarantee this obi was woven in the Nishijin Textile neighborhood of Kyoto, the pattern and coloring certainly suggest it. This is a delicate, incredibly labor-intensive, intricate weave of detailed elements - florals, boats, figures, traveler's accessories - all masterfully designed and placed in a pattern of scattered, open books. Shades of brown with gold - very elegant.
The obijime is a gold and cream mixed flat weave - 58" length.
