This is a traditional wrapping cloth but is so versatile - could be used as a wall hanging, table cover, or centerpiece to a quilted bed cover.

The pattern is of nine scenese of "the rabbit and the moon" - a very traditional Japanese motif - in blues against a dark blue background.

100% cotton, unlined, and 41" x 41.5" New, not vintage.

'Furo' is from the Japanese word for bath, add 'shiki' is a thing that is spread on the ground. People in the Edo Period (17th - 19th Century) used furoshiki on the way to and from the public baths. Furoshiki are still used in Japan as wrapping for gifts as well as a carrying cloth for everything from laundry to lunchboxes.
