For the most part, these haori are displayed (and can be worn) inside out, since the outside is typically plain brown or black - the treasure is in the lining! Click on the thumbnails to view larger images. To buy it, just click on the order link.

"Inside the Pyramids " Man's Haori Jacket- $150
ITEM NUMBER: 1206MH1

Traditional kimono jacket shown above with the lining side out, where you'll see a printed design of a collection of hard-to-describe images. Dogs, elephants, rabbits...but riders doing a backflip off a horse? And sets of script that read like hieroglyphics. All on a brick-like grid that makes us think of ancient Egypt. Outer jacket is plain but with a single embroidered crest at the neck.

"Sail Away to Nihon" Man's Haori - $175
ITEM NUMBER: 0908MH20

Semi-formal man's silk kimono jacket (haori) without any crests. Shown with lining side out, revealing a glorious painted boat with wonderful detail on the sails and more. Framed by a deep, rich Sea of Japan blue. There are three small holes at the shoulder, but the fabric is otherwise sturdy and the jacket is still quite wearable, though of course better to display the artwork! The outer fabric is a plain brown silk.

"Good Fortune" Man's Haori - $175
ITEM NUMBER: 0908MH12

Formal five-crested (feathers) man's silk kimono jacket (haori). Shown with lining side out, which reveals a painted design of a pavillion in the autumn decorating a good fortune "prayer" plaque that visitors typically purchase as an offering at temples. It also shows a tea bowl and whisk and a feather, same as in the family crest. The outer fabric is a plain black silk, except for the five crests.

"Fuji and the Falls " Man's Haori - $225

Formal five-crested (tachibana) man's silk kimono jacket (haori). Shown with lining side out, which reveals a brocaded collage of a shimmering Mount Fuji and lake with a sailboat, and an insert of a waterfall on the right. The outer fabric is a plain black silk, except for the five crests and a special feature: this jacket is "signed" with the two-character name of its original owner on the front lower left.

"Daruma" Man's Haori Jacket- $275
ITEM NUMBER: 0807MH11

Very impressive woven design of a praying Daruma (God of Prosperity and Perseverence) with amazing detail on the face. Next to this is a beautiful set of kanji characters - woven calligraphy! - and the signature of the calligrapher. To the right of Daruma is another signature, perhaps of the weaver/designer. Simple and elegant - wonderful for display but also quite wearable. Five family crests on the outer jacket.

"Museum Souvenir " Man's Haori - $175
ITEM NUMBER: 0908MH9

Formal five-crested (crossed daikon!) man's silk kimono jacket (haori). Shown with lining side out, revealing a pattern of layered paintings - a teahouse in the snow, pine and mountains, and a shakuhachi flute as well. Beautiful calligraphy on the mountain scene. The outer fabric is a plain black silk, except for the five crests. A flaw in the printing (?) at the top left side, but seems to be original to the design.

Formal five-crested (bellflower) man's silk kimono jacket (haori). Shown with lining side out, which reveals a brocaded diamond-shaped collage of a tea house and a single fu dog atop a temple bell. The diamond's border images include rural farm imagery. The outer fabric is a plain black silk, except for the five crests and a special feature: it is "signed" with a two-character name of its original owner on the front lower left.

Formal five-crested (melon flower) man's silk kimono jacket (haori). Shown with lining side out, revealing a brocaded view of a golden pavillion (perhaps it is Kinkakuji the famous Golden Temple in Kyoto) set next to a lake, complete with the golden pheonix on the roof. There's a tea urn and bowl on the lower right side. The outer fabric is a plain black silk, except for the five crests.

"Golden Ebi" Man's Haori Jacket- $200
ITEM NUMBER: 0807MH9

A bright golden weave shimmers behind a collage of design that includes a large shrimp (ebi), stylized kanji charachters, and a moutain scene. The lining side is in excellent condition but there is one small hole on the outside of one sleeve which could be repaired but would not show if worn or displayed lining-side out. Price reflects this blemish. Five family crests on the outer side.

"Cascade Retreat " Man's Haori Jacket- $225

Bright silver lanterns light the way through the gateway of a country estate built on a stone wall. The hidden compound is nestled below a silvery waterfall that flows from the mountainside, and bright gold bands of fog hover above the cascade. This could depict a private residence or a secluded temple complex from centuries ago. Five family crests on the outer side.
