'Furo' is from the Japanese word for bath, add 'shiki' is a thing that is spread on the ground. It seems that people in the Edo Period (17th - 19th Century), used furoshiki on the way to and from the public baths - to wrap their clean clothes in, to spread out on the bath house floor to stand on while changing, and to carry home their dirty clothes. Furoshiki are still used in Japan as wrapping for gifts as well as a carrying cloth for everything from laundry to lunchboxes. The ones for sale here are a large size, perfect as a wall hanging or table cloth for anywhere you want to add an Asian accent. The colors and designs are traditional and enduring, printed on a slightly textured 100% cotton fabric. 41" by 41.5".

Traditional Formal Hakama $120
includes airmail shipping from Japan
Brand new and in the original package, these are a gyoto, or skirt style (undivided) hakama, which looks the same as the pant style (umanori) from the outside. The undivided type is preferred because you wear the hakama over a kimono, which can then hang freely and evenly underneath. These striped hakama are meant for formal occasions such as weddings and ceremonies, and have long ties and a plastic tab that tucks into the obi worn beneath it.. Grooms wear these along with a black kimono and haori as the three-piece "tuxedo" of Japanese traditional attire. These are new, still in the plastic casing and with the pleats still tacked down, and a bit longer than the vintage versions. Several pairs are available, and the price includes shipping from Japan (4-7 days, normally). For express shipping, email us to arrange for additional charges.
