Packing Advice
Every year since 1996, we go to Kyoto in April to shop at the temple markets for more kimonos. In 2002 and 2003 we took some of you with us, and we'd like to invite you along in 2005 too! This will be a small group tour, with 10-16 people joining me and my buyer in Kyoto to not only visit the markets but also get an insider's taste of amazing Kyoto. We leave on Wednesday, May 18th (arriving in Kyoto on the 19th) spend 10 nights in Kyoto, and return on the 29th (departing Japan and arrving in The States on the same calender day).
What's included? The in-country cost is $2500 (this does not include airfare) and covers:
-6 nights in a western-style hotel
-4 nights at a traditional-style Japanese Inn (ryokan)
-Three workshops of hands-on activities
-All meals, transportation, tour and event expenses on the TOUR days
(Expenses (except hotel and breakfast) on the FREE day are up to you.)

The price is based on a minimum of eight people. The price could decrease if more than ten people come along. Maximum number of participants is 16.
Caution! This trip is not for everyone. While we will do our best to accommodate everyone, hand-holding will be at a minimum (more of it at first, less of it near the end). If you're flexible, healthy, normally not inclined to travel in groups, and eager to visit Japan - this could be the trip you've been waiting for. If you're a hesitant traveller, have strong dietary or physical limitations, have a low threshold for discomfort or a low tolerance for the unfamiliar, this is not the trip for you.  Comfort Level : $2500 may seem like a lot of money, but it does not get you luxury-level comfort in Japan. This is not a "high end" tour. The accomodation will be clean, convenient and comfortable, but we won't be staying in five-star hotels. We're more interested in making person-to-person connections, so in addition to keeping the trip small, we're hoping to arrange one meal at the home of a Japanese famly, and have several Japanese friends come along on the tours to translate and help out. We will also be happy to help arrange activities for you on your free days if you like. The focus of the trip will be to enjoy Kyoto at a reasonable pace - we can't possibly see it all, so lets be in good spirits and well-rested to enjoy what we can see in 11 days.
Join us next year!
