Description

"Cross-stitch Cutie" Japanique Robe

Cream background with a floral and geometric pattern created with tiny crosses that look like cross-stitch. It is actually a type of ikat weave where dabs of color are placed along the threads before they're woven so that the design appears after weaving.

Crepe texture. Lining has a lot of mottling such that it could have been intentionally added before the kimono was sewn...?

Ikat (also called kasuri) is a centuries-old method of weaving where the threads are dyed before being woven, so that the design appears on the loom. Ikat is a very labor-intensive textile art form, still very much revered in Japan and elsewhere. See the amazing process in the video below.

We have modified a woman's vintage kimono slightly to create this Japanique Boutique Robe. Shortening the length to 45" makes it easier to wear as a robe or cover up.

These also look great worn open as a kimono style long jacket.

We made a matching belt from the remnant, but the belt is narrow (3-4") and the length is 78" -- not a wide obi-like sash you'd normally see with a kimono.

See the video below about our Japanique Boutique line of handmade products.
