"Tsujigahana" Japanique Jacket

Tsujigahana is the art of sumie-style painting on the shibori resisted areas of the silk. This jacket is an wonderful example of how art is layered on top of art.

A bold and bright orange with a geometric jacquard weave provides the backdrop for scattered hexagons of white. Note the slightly puckered edges - a prized tell tale sign of hand-sewn shibori.

Painted florals in gray and green display the talent of the artist.

Nice drape with a slightly raised texture. Soft with a bit of a sheen to the orange.

Each Japanique Jacket starts with a vintage michiyuki, which is a narrow jacket with snap closures that was meant to be worn on top of a kimono. Most vintage michiyuki won't fit larger frames, so we modified the traditional garment slightly (removed the snaps, tacked the panels back to create lapels) to create a roomier, open, flowing jacket that can fit sizes 12-18 or possibly larger.

These are all one-of-a-kind jackets, so sizing will vary slightly. Check measurements below to confirm the length and width you want.
