Drapey raw silk is the background black - a firm fabric with some weight to it.
The pattern is a thickly brush-applied pattern of pastel florals and a garden lantern, done using the roketsuzome (wax resist) technique which produces the batik crackle.
The collar fabric is a rich peachy orange that calls out the coral tones of the jacket design.

Each Japanique Jacket starts with a vintage Japanese michiyuki jacket - a narrow garment with snap closures that was meant to be worn on top of a kimono.
We remove the center panels and add a collar with contrasting and complimenting vintage kimono or haori fabric, which opens the jacket up, allowing for a better fit for those who would like a more generous cut.
They're a great alternative to the vintage haori jacket because we preserve the main construction - sleeves, length, and lining - but add a touch of our own creativity in choosing fabrics that work well together.
