"Summer Gold" Nagoya Obi
Gorgeous deep gold color - makes us think of full, bright, summertime ! - with a sprig of blossoms in shades of purples that seem almost real. The florals were woven - see photo of the backside showing the thread salvages.
This is a nagoya obi where the width is normally folded over and sewn together for about two thirds of the length - this is the portion that would be wrapped around the waist. In this obi, only the last few inches of the belt section has been sewn shut, as a guide for folding the rest as needed. The wider bow section of formal versions (like this one) a feature a large design or image designed to appear center-back when the obi is tied in the taiko style bow. The design is repeated in a modified version where it would appear at the center front waist. Silk Partially lined (first 46") Length=12'
